Lettuce 'Merveille d’Hiver', meaning “Winter Marvel” in French, is a traditional French heirloom lettuce cherished for its ability to thrive in the cold months. Cultivated since at least the 19th century, this variety was developed for winter and early spring harvesting when fresh greens were scarce. A beloved staple in historic French potagers, The Lettuce 'Merveille d’Hiver'  produces large, compact, dense heads (pommée) with slightly crinkled green leaves.

Sunlight: Full sun

Soil requirement: well-drained, light soil

Sowing and cultivation:  Sow in September for overwintering,  Distance sowing by 30 cm. Protect with fleece, cloches, or a cold frame in winter. Avoid waterlogging in colder months. Harvest from April to May.
