A tasty old beefsteak tomato variety from the South West of France
Marmande beefsteak tomato is a French heirloom cultivated since the 19th century and originally from the commune of Marmande, a small town in the south-west of France. The Marmande tomato variety is semi-determinate, vigorous, productive and produces fruits from 170 g to 280 g of high quality, slightly flattened and ribbed, sweet and well fleshy with a distinctive flavour and excellent taste.

Soil requirement: Well drained and rich
Sowing and cultivation: Start indoors 6-8 weeks before last frost.Sow in a propagator on a windowsill or a greenhouse at approximately 18-21°C using a quality compost. Germination 8-12 days. Cover seeds with 6 mm sieved compost. Transplant seedlings singly into 75 mm pots, planting out when frost risk has passed. Allow 90 cm between plants each way. Water and feed regularly after first flowers have set. Removal of side shoots or trimming is not necessary unless growth is too rampant.
