The Purple celery from Tours is an old local French variety from the Touraine area in France.  It is one of these varieties you will not find sold commercially.  This stunning purple celery variety from Tours, called in French "celeri violet de Tours" produces large, broad, tender and meaty purple stalks with large dark green leaves. It is very decorative in the garden. The stalks can be eaten raw or cooked added to salads, soups, stews.

Sunlight: Full sun

Soil requirement: well draining and rich

Sowing and cultivation: Sow open, in trays, 8 to 10 weeks before final planting. Cover thinly with compost, tamp lightly then water with a spray so as not to bury the seeds. Transplant out when the plants have 6 to 8 leaves, after the last frosts, 30 cm apart in all directions.
