Also called hairy mountain mint, American mountain mint is is a clump-forming perennial that typically grows 1-3’ tall. It produces small, white (sometimes lavender-tinged) flowers with purple spotting in mid to late summer with broad leaves and short stalks. Its flowers are very attractive to bees and its leaves have a strong mint scent when crushed. The leaves can be used in marinades and tea. it is said to have medicinal properties. A word of caution, if not controlled, this plant cant become invasive.

Sowing and cultivation: Sow in Spring, Feb to May or in Autumn, Sept to Oct.Sow seed thinly on the surface of lightly firmed, moistened seed compost in pots or trays. Keep moist and out of the sun. Easy to germinate, usually 14 to 21 days at 20°C
