An eschalion for gourmets!

Zebrune shallot is an heirloom French eschalion.Sometimes called "Échalote zébrune", and frequently "Échalote cuisse de poulet du Poitou", the Zebrune shallot is not a shallot but an eschalion which is is an edible variety of onion, elongated in shape, resembling shallots, but reproducing by seedlings. The Zebrune is a traditional variety with a very good yield and is not very sensitive to rot. Measuring on average 10-18 centimetres long, it has a pinkish white flesh with a pronounced taste. The bigger it gets, the more its taste gets milder. It is therefore harvested early, in order to preserve all its taste potential and its fine sweet flavour. Large yields could be started the first year from an early planting. Excellent keeping quality. Great in salads and for cooking.
