Joe Thieneman Australian Heart tomato is a heirloom tomato first listed in the Seed Saver exchange 2007 yearbook listed by Neil Lockhart of Oblong, Illinois. The story goes that these tomato seeds were acquired by the late Joe Thieneman, a knowledgeable nurseryman from Louisville, Kentucky, during the time of World War II from an Australian source. Joe diligently cultivated the seeds and his family continues to do so, selling the plants in their own nursery. The Joe Thieneman tomato variety produce indeterminate, regular-leaf tomato plants that yield good quantities of red 200 to 400g heart-shaped tomatoes with a wonderfully well-balanced sweet flavour with a hint of acidity. These rare tomato seeds are an excellent choice for slicing into sandwiches, salads, and making sauce.
