The Viladesens onion also called Figueres onion is a sweet Heirloom onion originating from the area of Viladesens in the province of Girona in Catalunya. It is a traditional variety of onion, famous for its sweet taste and soft texture. The slightly flattened medium size bulbs are pink. This variety is great consumed fresh as it does not keep well in storage. Ideal in salads.

Sowing and cultivation: Sow in December indoors thinly in rows about 20cm apart covering with 1cm of soil. After germination allow the seedlings to get to about 10cm tall before transplanting around April when the seedlings have reached 15/20 cm and thin to the required spacing. Apply manure. The roots do not like to be disturbed so it is advised to transplant with caution.
