Violina Di Rugosa squash is a butternut squash heirloom variety from Southern Italy. It is also known as Giant Peanut, wrinkled butternut, or Gandiotti pumpkin. This is not a variety you will find commonly available. The Violina di Rugosa squash grows on large vines and produces medium to large fruits. 20 to 30 cm long and weighing 4-5 pounds. It had a hard, tan skin, covered with wrinkles and grooves and its flesh is dense with a deep orange color. Like most butternuts, it has a violin shape, cylindrical with a large bulbous bottom.
