A fabulously sweet tomato
Cherokee Chocolate tomato is a variety that originated in the gardens of Craig LeHoullier, a heirloom tomato collector, in 1995. When craig LeHoullier realized the tomato variety was stable, he named it, shared it with seed savers organizations. This variety of tomato is bred for organics and was pledged to the Open Source Seed Initiative (OSSI) which means this variety will remain in the public domain. The plant has a regular tomato foliage. This variety is very productive, is indeterminate and will need stacking. Fruit are oblate shaped, have a weight of about 200-400g and ripen mid-season. The flesh is deep crimson and the skin is yellow. The fruit turns brick red colored on blossom end and deepen to mahogany chocolate on the shoulders. This variety is delicious with sweet, slightly tart, firm but very juicy flesh and has an intense and well-balanced flavour. This variety is excellent for slicing.
