Gagon is a rare Bhutanese cucumber that thrives in northern climates. It is a great cucumber for eating raw or pickling when it is immature and green. When mature, it is very similar to the more common Indian variety ‘Poona Kheera’, but is darker-skinned, much bigger and taste like melon. The Gagon cucumber can be eaten raw, pickled or cooked in chutneys. It is a long season cucumber variety that will need about 90 days to produce fruits. Sowing and cultivation: Sow seeds indoors 6 weeks before last frost if you will be growing them in a heated greenhouse.Sow cucumber seeds on their side, 1–2 cm deep, in small pots. Keep them at 21°C . Or Sow directly outside after the last chance of frost has passed and the soil temperature is at 21 C. It is recommended to give the plant support.
