A French heirloom Cabbage that can be harvested early

Aubervilliers cabbage, originally Chou d’Aubervilliers, is a robust winter variety that forms large, round to slightly flattened heads and thick, smooth blue-green leaves, traditionally grown for late harvests. The heads are dense and heavy, developing their best flavor and texture when harvested before becoming oversized.

Exceptionally cold-hardy, this French heritage variety thrives in autumn and winter, standing well in the field even after frost. Its firm texture and rich, slightly sweet flavor make it ideal for slow cooking, braising, soups, fermented dishes, and traditional cabbage recipes.

Scientific Name: Brassica Oleracea

Plant Life Cycle: Biennial (grown as an annual)

Optimal Germination Temperature: 15-20C

Germination time in days: 7-12 days

Indicative Days to maturity: 90 to 120 days

Sunlight: Full sun

Soil requirement: rich and well drained

Sowing and cultivation: Sow seeds 1–2 cm deep in fine compost indoors from February to April. Keep in a propagator or on a bright windowsill. Transplant outdoors once plants are large enough to handle and after the risk of hard frost has passed. Space generously to allow full head development. Best suited to autumn and winter harvests.
