The roots of liquorice have been harvested for centuries as a medicine and flavouring for sweets. Liquorice is easy to grow and manage once it is established. It is best to leave it for 3 years before the first harvest.

Soil requirement: moist, loamy soil

Sowing and cultivation: Sow seeds in early spring, soak seeds for 24 hours, then plant half an inch deep in prepared soil. When they have germinated and are big enough to handle, space at least two feet apart.
