Midnight Roma tomato was developed by Dr Jim Myers at Oregon State University. This semi-determinate sauce tomato pairs the bold anthocyanin dark skin of Indigo Rose with the paste-friendly Oregon Star tomato. The result is a richly pigmented plum-shaped tomato boasting both depth of flavour and nutritional density. Released in 2021, the Midnight Roma variety stands out for its antioxidant-rich skin and versatile culinary potential.  Maturing typically in 80 days, the deep purple-red fruits burst with complex flavour, tailor-made for sauces, pastes and roasting. Cooks praise its ability to reduce quickly, delivering layers of sweetness, acidity and rich umami - a true sauce-lover's dream. Some describe it as the inside of a Roma tomato while the skin tastes like blueberry. Amateur seeds grown and seed saved in Cork, Ireland and not for commercial use.
