Swenson Swedish Pea Heirloom

Swenson Swedish Pea is a Heirloom snow pea variety, similar to mangetout, said to originate from Sweden. It was given to the Seed Savers Exchange by Charles Swenson whose grandfather brought the variety to Minnesota from Sweden in 1876. It produces large yields of beautiful sweet pods with a yellowish skin tone, each pod containing between 6 to 8 peas. According to Charles Swenson, the peas are usually harvested while still young and flat and cut into ¼" pieces and creamed to make a traditional Scandinavian dish. We grew this variety in Cork and it certainly stands out in the garden. It will need support to climb. Good flavor. Seeds grown and seed saved in Cork, Ireland.
