A heirloom pepper variety famous for its sweet taste.
Gogosari pepper is a vigorous Romanian Heirloom pepper variety dating back to at least 100 years, tolerant of high temperatures, with high yields. The fruits are about 150-200 g and ripen to an intense red. They are ideal for using in salads, roasting, pickled and for stuffing. The Gogosari pepper is an annual plant widely cultivated for its large, sweet and fleshy peppers and a flattened, rounded shape and a convex surface burgundy red in color that makes it look like a tomato. The peppers have a sweet taste and a compact, juicy pulp, thicker and crispier than other varieties. This variety can still be found in Romania in some areas in cultivation but it is at risk of being lost as the younger generations are moving out of farmlands. Gogosari pepper is a bit difficult to grow so will be better for the experienced or adventurous gardener.
