A luminous heirloom tomato with a story

White Wonder tomato is an old American heirloom, believed to date back as far as pre-1860. Legend has it that Thomas Jefferson, a statesman and experimental gardener, planted this variety at his home in Monticello. White Wonder tomatoes are creamy-white oblate shaped beefsteak tomatoes that weigh up to 2 pounds. The flesh is meaty with few seeds, yellow-white in colour, sweet, juicy giving it almost a melon-like flavour. The bushy indeterminate plants grow about 5 feet tall. The white wonder grew well for us here in Cork, and is in the top 3 most productive beefsteak tomatoes we grew in 2025. With very little maintenance needed, we just left the plants do their things. We love the taste and unusual feel of this tomato and we have been using it in salads, or simply sliced. Seeds grown and seed saved in Cork, Ireland.
