The radicchio Rossa di Verona is an italian traditional variety of chicory that produces compact radicchio heads with deep-red, almost carmine, heart-shaped leaves. The leaves taste a bit bitter. They are great in salads, roasted or sautéed and will add a beautiful touch of color to your plate in Autumn or spring. The radicchio is a cool season crop, and can be planted all year round in climates where the winter is not hard.
