A famous Chilli pepper for hot sauces

The Tabasco Chilli Pepper, a heirloom variety hailing from Mexico's Tabasco state, boasts a Scoville rating of 30,000 to 50,000. This particular pepper, known scientifically as Capsicum frutescens, grows to a maximum length of 5 cm and changes color from green to yellow to orange before maturing to a stunning red. Its compact, bushy plants can grow up to 1.5m tall and have a high yield, making this pepper a popular choice for creating spicy sauces.

Soil requirement: rich in organic matter, well drained, fertile

Sowing and cultivation: Start indoors 8-10 weeks before last frost. Sow seed in a propagator from March in warmth. Keep small plants in a sunny, frost-free environment until they can be planted in the greenhouse from late April or outdoors in late May. Transplant with 90 cm between plants

It is advised to grow this pepper in a greenhouse or sunny sheltered spot since they need high temperature to grow
