A runner bean from as far back as the 1800's

Scarlet runner bean is an heirloom pole bean variety said to originate from Central America that has been a favorite of gardeners for centuries. The scarlet runner bean is grown not only for its small green shell beans or snap pods but also for its strikingly beautiful red crimson flowers growing on strong dark green vines that will bring a fabulous touch of color to your garden. The dried beans turn to wonderful black and purple color. The scarlet runner beans will produce lima type beans that will do well in cool climates. The large beans are good for freezing, canning and eating fresh. Limas can be used fresh when beans fill the pod, or they can be left to dry in the pod to be used as dried beans. Please note 7 seeds in packets. Seeds are quite large.
