A heirloom pepper variety famous for its sweet taste.
The Romanian tomato pepper is a vigorous Romanian Heirloom pepper variety tolerant of high temperatures, with high yields. The fruits are about 150-200g and turn intensely red when ripe. They are ideal for using in salads, roasting, pickled and for stuffing. The peppers have a flattened, rounded shape and a convex surface burgundy red in color that makes it look like a tomato. The peppers have a sweet taste and a compact, juicy pulp, thicker and crispier than other varieties. This variety can still be found in Romania in some areas in cultivation but it is at risk of being lost as the younger generations are moving out of farmlands. Gogosari pepper is a bit difficult to grow so will be better for the experienced or adventurous gardener.
